Rachel Roy Curvy: Spring 2017 and the Dress I Fell in Love With
As my journey to #BeGreater continues, my body has changed alongside it. Wearing a smaller size has started to give me access to a larger spectrum of plus size fashion than I had had been able to wear in recent years. Currently, as a size 22, I am able to start honoring my "fashion joy" in new and exciting ways! When I saw this Rachel Roy Ruched Dress from her Curvy Collection, I truly fell in love with it. The print. The high neck, gathered waist and flowing sleeves. All of it. Like. Perfection. Now, hear me out for a minute, but I'm actually feeling this dress is pretty versatile! It would me a flirty date dress, a great look for a more casual and creative workplace, or even be great for lunch, brunch or dinner out with....cowboy boots. Yes, I said it. #DontJudgeMeEverythingGoesWithCowboyBootsI'm wearing a 2X. Yes, you read that right! I don't think this is my normal size; I think the cut of this specific dress was more forgiving. The length? WAS PERFECT for my shortness! I loved the smocking by the neck and waist. It made me feel as if my features were defined but not restricted.I have a pretty simple style aesthetic. I tend to go very low-key on accessories. For this I did a set of gold bangles and my favorite gold Tieks in Starstruck. I got these back in June of 2015 and they still look great.Let's talk about the Rachel Roy Curvy collection itself; it's chic, contemporary and minimalist. Lots of black and white, pops of color and print and denim thrown in. Sophisticated lines and shapes. Many times designers do "watered down" versions of their straight sizes for plus -- not here. While there are less styles available in plus (which is pretty standard) the styles fit right along in line with those offered in smaller sizes. There are even some of the exact styles available in the full size range! As this dress hangs in my closet right now, I'm already thinking of how and when I'll wear it again. I may even try it with some Ked-style white sneakers! I have a personal rule these days -- if I'm adding something to my closet it is because I am in love with it and it speaks to me. Nothing extra. Just what I love. And I love this.xxo
