Favorite Thing: Kiyonna Caycee Plus Size Top
I have been a loyal Kiyonna shopper since, well, longer than I care to admit. The first time I can remember being proud of my outfit was wearing one of their dresses; black, with a deep v-neckline and fitted skirt flounced with white trim. The same truth can be said about the brand now as it could then - Kiyonna makes elegant, chic and curve-friendly styles. Every now and then I add a new style to my closet. A perfectly proportioned wrap dress in black or animal print or, as I did last year, a jersey-knit top I took a chance on during one of Kiyonna's famous online sidewalk sales. I came, I saw, I shopped... and I fell in love. Cue the Caycee top, my new best friend.
It would be easy to dismiss Caycee as "just another plus size top made by another plus size brand" and loop it in with the rest of them. Except, if you did that, you'd be cutting yourself short. I know own three of these tops and they have wiggled their way into my closet as being beloved wardrobe staples for a few reasons:
- Cut: This top works for me exactly like I want it to with a masterfully chic design. I know a lot of women dislike the word "flattering" because it implies confirming to some greater society standard. Let's not even go there. I love this because I feel it works SUPERBLY for my body type and, frankly, for plus size women of a variety of shapes and sizes. This is a top that works for (pretty much) everyone. And yes, I do feel its ridiculously flattering for ME because it does to my body what I want a top to do. It creates shape, skims over my midsection and is the perfect length. I absolutely go body conscious without fear but, I also like looks that are more flowing and soft. For me, this top is an absolute gem!
- Fabric: There's "jersey" and than there's "jersey" and this is the later of the two. Jersey tends to be an expression that's thrown around a lot. As someone who has worked in the production of plus size clothes before, I can tell you 100% that not all jersey is created equal. The lesser quality jersey will pill, tear and wear down. Better jersey, as Kiyonna uses here, stands up wash after wash. It keeps its integrity and is soft, pill-free and easy wearing.
- Versatility: Pairs equally well with denim and flats as it does slacks and heels. If you are like me, sometimes you buy styles knowing you'll wear them twice and then be done with them. You shop for something in specific, wear it, and then it sits unused in your closet. Not. This. Top. No seriously! I am just as likely to wear this top with my fav cropped jeans and some Ugg moccasins as I am some skinny black pants for a date night. The reason why? Because you can. Oh, and in case you needed some evidence of just how much my current Caycee tops have been a part of my wardrobe here are two total real-life pics of me wearing both my pink and red top within the past year
To make this long story short, I am literally in love with this top. In full disclosure, this specific color was gifted to me by Kiyonna but I received no monetary compensation for my opinions and post. I have bought two of these tops before and I will absolutely buy one again! (Oh, and this is the first time Kiyonna has ever sent me something so, you know everything else of theirs in my closet this gal paid for herself!)
